How will my child be assessed in second grade?

Your child will be assessed informally in both reading and math on a daily
basis. This is done through classwork and small group instruction. In
addition to these informal assessments, students will be given county-wide
assessments each nine weeks in math. I will check reading progress through
running records which will show your child's reading level each nine weeks.

What does AM stand for?

Accelerated Math. This is the first year that your child will participate in
this program. He/she will continue with accelerated math through fifth
grade. Your child will practice math skills using worksheets printed from
the A.M. program on the computer. He/she will then take a quiz on that
skill. Your child will be expected to fill in bubble sheets to answer the
math questions. If they master the quiz, they may go on to the next skill.
If not, the computer will automatically print out more practice worksheets on
the same skill until your child can master it!
