Application Tips

If you need someone (teacher, counselor, or someone outside of
school) to write a recommendation for you for any purpose--a scholarship
competition, college admission, etc.--please provide that person with a
resume and give the request to him/her approximately 5 days prior to the due
date. A rushed recommendation will not be as thoroughly thought-out. Many
teachers and counselors have several students applying for the same things
with the same deadlines. These are handled on a first-come basis. You need
to do your part to help the person writing the recommendation to meet the
deadline in a timely manner---not at the last minute.

Colleges now prefer applications to be submitted online. If this is not
possible, paper applicatins will be accepted. All applications should be
typed when possible. Since typewriters are hard to find these days, PRINT
applications in DARK BLUE or BLACK INK only!! Never submit an application in
pencil or unusual colors of ink (such as red or purple or green).

Read all directions thoroughly. If it says additional information (such as a
resume) may be attached, you should probably submit one. If if says they do
not want any additional information attached, be sure to follow those
directions. They might be testing to see how well you follow instructions.

MEET THE DEADLINES!! One day late is late. Your application might not be
accepted. There will be plenty of others who met the deadline. An
explanation of why your application was late will usually not be considered.
