Reading Strategies

I have made this page for you to know what to do when your child does not
know a word, or is struggling while reading!! I hope you find it useful.

*Look at the picture--your child can gain tons of information just by
            looking at the picture!

*Think about what makes sense--does the word you are about to say make
sense in the story? Think before you say it!

*Reread the sentence again, see if your word fits!

*Look at the beginning letter of the word you do not know, get your lips
             ready to say it

*Look for word chunks and word families in the word that you might know.

*Skip the word and read on...do you know it now?

*Finally, ask for help, that is what we are here for!!

AFTER READING:
Ask your child some questions to make sure that they understood what they
read!!

1. What happened in the story?
2. Was there a problem in the story?
3. How was it solved?
4. Where does the story take place?
5. Who are the main characters?
6. Did you like this book? Why or Why not?
