The teachers will make course recommendations for your student based on
his/her grades in current classes as well as how s/he scored on the
Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test. The process for recommendation for
Honors/CP World History is a little different as the freshmen have had not
had a history class yet.
The criteria for recommendation into Honors World History are:
• The score on the Written Expression section on the PSAT AND
• Third Quarter grades in both English and Science
This information is used in a formula to determine appropriate placement in
Honors or CP World History. We have found this basis for placement to be
successful for the students in this subject area.
If your student is not placed in Honors World History, there are protocols in
place to allow them to move into the Honors track if they so desire. If the
student maintains an A- or higher average 1st and 2nd quarters in CP World
History and earns an A- or higher on the semester exam s/he can request a
recommendation from their teacher to move into Honors for the second
This same protocol is in place for a student to move from CP World History to
Honors U.S. History from the sophomore to junior years.
