FAQ's for ParentsFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Who is the 9th grade counselor? Ms. Glover Email: sglover@wcpss.net 919-664-7784 What do I do if I have a concern about a class? It is best to e-mail the teacher(s) directly. Teacher e-mail addresses are located on the Broughton website. (You may access this website by going to the home page and clicking on the school house in the upper right corner.) How do we know when interims and report cards will be sent home? These dates are listed on the WCPSS master calendar that is in the daily planner given to each student. Record these dates on your personal calendar so you will remember to ask your student to see interims/report cards. How does my child get assignments when he/she is absent from class? Anytime a child is absent, the parent should call the BHS Attendance Office on the day of the absence (856-7852) If you know the child will be out for AT LEAST 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS, ask the attendance technician to send a request for assignments to the teachers OR email the teacher directly for assignments. Parents may then pick up the work after school the following day from the attendance office. Teachers must have 24 hours notice to prepare assignments. I think it is easier to make sure your student has a "study buddy" to call in each class to find out missed assignments. What should I do if I have concerns about a teacher? Parents need to first contact the teacher and make an effort to solve the problem by working together. If you then feel the problem has not been resolved, feel free to call or e-mail the counselor or administrator. We will be glad to listen to the concern and steer you in the right direction if we are unable to help you. What should I do if I have concerns about assignments, grades, etc.? Please e-mail the teacher(s) directly. Teacher e-mail addresses are located on the Broughton website. How can I keep up with homework assignments? Every student at BHS is provided a planner by the Academic Booster Club. Encourage your student to record all assignments in the planner for you to review at home together. If needed, ask each teacher to initial the assignment to verify that the student has recorded it correctly. (It is the student's responsibility to ask the teacher for his/her signature at the end of class!) How do I schedule a conference with one or more teachers? It is usually preferable to speak with teachers one-on-one rather than having a group conference; however, you may contact the counselor if there is a specific reason to meet with a group of teachers and we will send notes to teachers requesting their presence on a specified date. The student should plan to attend the conference as well. Group conferences times are generally from 3:15 - 3:40 p.m. on Mondays,Tuesdays, and Thursdays OR fromo 7:30 - 7:50 a.m. any day of the week. How do I make an appointment to see the counselor? Beginning the 3rd week of school, the 9th grade counselor will post a parentnappointment calendar on the door each Monday. Parents may come by and sign up for a convenient time to meet. You may also e-mail the counselor for a time. How can I find out about clubs and activities at BHS? The clubs are listed in the student agenda with the name of the sponser listed. Students and/or parents can email the teacher for dates and times of meetings. Is there tutoring offered at school? Yes - please look for the Resources page to be posted on the BHS website by early October. |
