Ms. Graham’s Class Procedures
2009-2010
Entering the Classroom:
You are to walk into the classroom quietly. Students who do not do this will
be asked to leave the room and re-enter as expected. When you come in, you
should quickly find your seat, and begin working on your warm-up. If you
finish early, you should take out something to read.
Accelerated Reading Program
Each nine weeks, you are required to read and test on 3 books. You and I
will negotiate the types of books that can be read. You are only able to
abandon 1 book per nine weeks. These test grades will be recorded as an AR
grade which is worth 10% of your overall average.
Choice Time
In this class we work from beginning to end. During choice time, you have
the chance to read, work on journal entries, work on upcoming events, and
etc. A list of approved activities will be placed on the board at the front
of the room.
Behavior
Disruptions of any kind are not allowed in my classroom. I believe that in
order for us all to have a productive year. We must respect our learning
environment and the people around us. I will go over my expectations in
further detail, but just know that if you are disturbing or disrupting my
class, you WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.
Keeping Up with Assignments
We work hard every day. You will not have the time or the opportunity to
misbehave, but if you choose to, you will get behind with your work and let
me just say…when you fall behind, it is hard to catch up.
Sharpening your pencil:
This should be done before class. There should be no more than one (1)
person at the sharpener at a time. If your pencil breaks during class simply
walk quietly to the pencil sharpener.
Coming to Attention:
When I need the class quiet, I will raise my hand. You are expected to stop
what you are doing and give me your undivided attention.
Late Work:
Homework and classwork will NOT be accepted late! Papers, Quizzes and
Projects may be turned in late with a penalty of dropping a letter grade for
each day it is late.
Extra Credit:
No extra credit will be given. An additional 2 points will be added to the
your final nine weeks grade for bringing back your Wednesday grade sheet on
time.
Absences/Make-UP Work:
On the day you return from an absence you should check the “While You Were
Out” folders. If there are any questions speak with me before or after
class. You are responsible for checking these folders. You will have 3 days
to turn in the missed assignments.
Make-Up Test:
If you are absent on test day, you will have to arrange for a make-up test.
Make these appointments before or after class.
Grade Sheets:
Grade sheets will go home every Wednesday. You are expected to get these
signed and returned on Thursday.
Using the Bathroom:
The bathroom may only be used in cases of emergencies! A pass is needed for
leaving the class and you must sign-out using the clipboard, located by the
door. You should use the bathroom before class or at designated times.
Tardies/Late Arrivals:
If you are not in the classroom when the bell rings, you are considered
tardy. Entering the classroom without a note is also considered a tardy.
Excessive tardies will result in disciplinary actions.
Behavior in the hallway:
When you are in the hallway, there should be no talking. You should walk to
the right side of the hallway keeping your hands and feet to yourself.
Checking out Books from the class Library:
If you want to check out a book from our class library, let me know! Fill
out one of the sheets that are located in the green basket and then place the
completed form in the blue basket.
Dress Code:
I will strictly enforce dress code as it is stated in the student handbook.
If you are debating whether or not to wear something, your best bet would be
not to wear it.
Visitors/Substitutes:
When there is a visitor or substitute you are expected to be on your best
behavior. We show people respect when they enter our class, so impress them
with your kindness and respect.
Food, Candy/Gum, and Drinks:
NOT ALLOWED
Dismissal:
Do not jump up when you hear the bell. I will dismiss you at the end of
class.
