My name is Allison Wooten, and I love teaching at Codington
Elementary School. I consider my job the BEST in the world! I grew up in
the Sandhills. My mother was a teacher, and my father worked for the North
Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission. He worked out of Raleigh and
supervised Scotland, Robeson and Hoke counties.
Growing up, seeing my family and my teachers help others inspired me
to do the same. So helping students learn was always my original
inspiration. I had no idea my contributions and enjoyment would go beyond
that thought. Luckily, school was always a great place to be, and I still
think that is true. Most importantly, the children I teach influence my
decision to remain a teacher. I consider myself a very strong advocate for
children, and those close to me would say the same.
I am very, very excited to begin a brand new year with my remarkable
students, and I must say their hard work, genuine smiles and their literacy
growth are just a few daily rewards.
This is my sixth year at Codington, and my 16th year working in
New Hanover County School System. I taught first grade for 4 years, and I
have taught Reading at all elementary grade levels for 11 years. My
certifications are as follows: Elementary Education, Reading Recovery, and
Curriculum and Instructional Supervision (MEd.). I obtained my degrees from
UNCW. Go Seahawks! In 2004, I earned National Board Certification for
Early and Middle Childhood Literacy: Reading/Language Arts. Recently, I
was accepted into the Ed.D. Program at UNCW. I will continue to work
at Codington and attend Doctoral School in August.
Other than teaching, I love to walk, ride my bike, shell, bead,
stamp, listen to music, paint, shop and of course, read! Other than learning
about teaching and children, I like to learn about artists like Monet, WWII
history, birds, flowers and Spanish. I am also a member of St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Wilmington.
I am certain we’ll have a wonderful year!
My mission is to provide MEANINGFUL and MOTIVATING literacy
experiences which help children become independent readers and writers.
