Anna Weddington, NCC,NCSC School Counselor K-2 School Counselor 3-5 790-2236 x 106 790-2236 x 107 Purpose: The purpose of the Codington School Counseling Program is to help meet the social, emotional, academic, and behavioral needs of our students by placing special emphasis on self-esteem, character education, and social skills. Specific services include: Individual counseling: This service is based on the individual needs of one student. Referrals to meet privately with a student come from parents, teachers, and students. Small group counseling: This service is designed to meet the needs of five to six students who have the same concerns or who have common interests. Possible group topics may include (but are not limited to) self-esteem, social skills, divorce, anger management, grief and loss, bullying, assertiveness skills, and relational aggression. Classroom guidance: This service is designed to meet the needs of all students students in a proactive and developmental manner. Guidance lessons integrate the themes of My Self, My Friends, My World, and My Future into the goals and objectives of the Standard Course of Study for School Counseling. Consultation: This service involves collaborating with teachers and parents to plan strategies to meet student needs and to provide information about additional resources. School-wide Character Education: In order to promote positive character development, we have a character trait that is emphasized each month.
