Babar's World Tour Some grade levels listened to Babars World Tour. We loved the illustrations in the book and had fun practicing saying words in other languages. Babar and Queen Celeste decide to take their children on a world tour. The first stop is Italy, followed by Germany, Spain, and Russia, where they learn to say hello and a simple phrase in the host language. Then they visit India, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, and across the Pacific to the Anasazi caves of the American Southwest, Machu Picchu in Peru, then across the Atlantic to Egypt. After Paris, they go to Antarctica. The author is Jean de Brunhoff.

Pysanky Eggs Pysanky, the art of the decorated egg, is an ancient and beautiful form of folk art from the Ukraine. The eggs are used as ornaments and are widely collected and admired. Pysanky eggs are traditionally created and exchanged among Ukrainian family members and friends in springtime at Easter. The varied designs are traditional. Designs include geometric shapes, hearts, bands, flowers, animals and birds. |

Every spring I love to read Rechenkas Eggs to my students. Patricia Polacco, my favorite author, wrote the story. The story is about an older woman who works all year to decorate eggs for the Easter Festival. She takes in a wounded goose. When an accident destroys the eggs, the goose saves the day with colorful surprises! |
Mrs. K, Fiona and Mrs. J design beautiful Pysanky eggs, too!

It's FUN learning new things!
|
Using traditional Pysanky Designs and photographs, students used colored pencils to decorate their eggs.

Compare/Contrast These students drew 2 eggs. One egg was decorated like an American Easter Egg. The other one was decorated like a Ukranian egg. |
