AIG is the gifted resource program implemented in New Hanover 
County Schools.

What does AIG stand for?

AIG stands for acedmically and/or intellectually gifted.

How and where can I get information about the AIG program?

I will be glad to answer any questions you may have.  Please feel free to
contact me by mail, phone, email, or come into the school in person.  Your
child's classroom teacher also knows about the AIG program.  

In addition you can also contact New Hanover County School's 
Coordinator of Gifted Education, Diane Flagler.   Her website provides 
information and forms for New Hanover County's referral process for
differentiated services http://www.nhcs.k12.nc.us/instruction/sage/.

Who can referr a student for differentiated services?

A parent, staff member, other students, or even the student themself can 
nominate a student for differentiated services?

What grade does formal gifted identification begin?

Formal identification begins in the third grade.  New Hanover county requires
standardized test scores for formal identification and the CogAT is
administered at the beginning of a student's third grade school year.

Who identifies a student for AIG services?

A school's match team reviews a students nomination and information forms and
determines the correct level of differentiation services required to meet the
student's academic level.
