The AIG program at Codington Elementary is divided into two parts, enriching
program and pull out classes for formally identified students. During
enrichment the gifted education specialist goes into the regular classroom
and presents whole class lessons on creative or critical thinking. Each K-2
classroom has a weekly enrichment lesson. Enrichment for grades 3-5 occurs
on Monday afternoons during grade level excell times. On the average each
class in 3-5 recieves an enrichment lesson once a month. If there is time in
the Gifted Education Specialist schedule, small groups of k-2 students may be
pulled for work in an enrichment group. These groups are informal and will
only last for a short period of time. The enrichment group students are not
formally identified as gifted.
Students who have been formally identified for needing additional gifted
services or differentiation by the Codington's Match team have pull out
classes with the gifted education specialist four school days per week. The
object and focus of these sessions are to specifically teach NC thinking
skills and to extend and enrich the regular classroom curriculum.
