LESSON I: “BATTLE OF FORT DONELSON”
OBECTIVES:
The student will:
1.
Learn basic facts about the Battle of Fort
Donelson, including:
Ø
Location of Battle
Ø
Importance of the battle on the course of the
war
Ø
Victor and vanquished
Ø
Chronological placement of the battle within the
war
2.
Write additional lyrics to the song Battle of Fort Donelson that are
historically accurate and of importance. (If the entire unit is being used,
this could be postponed until the end, and the student could be allowed to
choose which enrichment activity to use.)
3.
Pass a basic test of recall knowledge on the
Battle of Fort Donelson. (If all five lessons are used, teacher may wait until
completion and use the provided test that will cover information from the other
CD selections.)
MATERIALS NEEDED:

CD player or some other method of playing an
audio compact disc.
·
Free compact disc Songs of the Lower Mississippi Delta from the New Orleans Jazz
National Historical Park.
·
One copy of the poem for each student.
·
A transparency of the lyrics, or a means of
projecting lyrics in some other manner (such as writing on a white board or chalk
board).
·
Pencils and highlighters.
·
Computers and internet connection will be needed
if the Fort Donelson National Historical battlefield Park site is to be accessed
