Cog At
This Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday your third grader will be participating in the Cog At testing. This test is the first screening test for the Academically Gifted program. Please remind your student that this is not supposed to be a stressful experience. All that we ask them to do is their best, nothing more, nothing less. With that being said, please help them to do their best by making sure that they get a good nights sleep and a nutritious breakfast each morning. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all.
Homework This Week
This week, our homework schedule will be a little different due to the Cog At testing. There will be no Word Work this week. Students will be asked to complete their cursive and math homework each night. These two assignments will be checked daily.
Morehead Planetarium Field Trip
The time has come for us to start preparing for our next Field Trip. Our next Field Trip will be on Thursday, March 18, 2010 to the Morehead Planetarium. This Field Trip is a great opportunity for your third grader to further explore the concepts in our next science unit, Objects in the Sky. The cost for this Field Trip is $11.00 per student. We ask that you send in whatever you can for your child to attend this Field Tip. If you would like to sponsor a student please feel free to send in any donations. We greatly appreciate your effort to help every student attend this wonderful academic experience. Enclosed in your students Monday folder is a Parental Consent and Emergency Information form. Please fill this out and return it back to school as soon as possible. You student will not be able to attend the Field Trip if this form has not been turned in. Please fill out all of the information and return it back to school. Thank you in advance for all of the help and support!
Bring Your Dad to Lunch
This week at Douglas Elementary is Bring Your Dad to Lunch week. If you would like to come to each lunch with your third grader, please come at 12:20. They have asked that you eat the school lunch with your student and do not bring in fast food. This is a great opportunity to support your student at school, and I would love to see all the dads come out at some point this week.
Winter Weather
Thank you for continuing to bundle up your students before they come to school. I appreciate your help with keeping them healthy and warm in this chilly weather. Please continue to send them to school in a winter coat, and appropriate footwear. They may also wear hats, ear warmers and gloves for additional warmth. If you student does happen to get sick, please keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours before returning.
