Science

Welcome to Track 4 6th Grade Science!
I am your substitute teacher this quarter, Kate Ziegler!
Mrs. Attayek had a beautiful baby boy and she is at home taking care of him!

COURSEWORK:
Our first unit this quarter will be learning about the Scientific
Method. We will learn about measuring, observing and other cool things!
After that we will study Plate Tectonics...it's going to be a great year and
I look forward to working with each of you! If you have any questions, or
concerns, please email Mrs. Stenzel @ bstenzel@wcpss.net. I do not have
computer access at this time.
Thanks so much!
Mrs. Kate Ziegler

EXPECTATIONS:
I have some strong expectations for the students in this class. I expect
that. . .
      1. You will come prepared with 2 pencils, your agenda, notebook, paper
and completed homework. Periodically you will need to bring your
          text book and study guide.
      2. You will be respectful to your classmates and your teacher.
      3. You will always try your best.

     In return,you may expect. . .
     1. I will come prepared to teach.
     2. I will treat you with respect.
     3. I will try my best to have interesting and meaningful lessons.

If you want to have a grade update, you'll be able to log into your
account on SnapGrades.net and see which assignments you're missing and what
your current grade is. I will update the grade book weekly. If you have
questions concerning homework assignments, I will be listing them on
Schoolnotes.com. Just enter our zipcode (26714) and find my name. Realize that
the homework is always subject to change, but at least you'll have an idea
what we'll be working on. The most accurate homework assignments will be
written daily in your agenda. If you have any questions, my email is
amastromarino@wcpss.net. I check my email at least twice a day and will
respond as soon as I am able to. If you do not receive an answer within a day
or two, please resend your message. The email system is notorious for dropping
emails. You are also welcome to call the office and leave a message for me to
return your call.

CLASS POLICIES:
As a number of students have misplaced the letter I sent home the
beginning
of the year, here are my class policies. While I was lenient during the first
quarter, these will be followed closely as we are now starting our 3rd quarter
and students should be quite familiar with my expectations.
Due dates: Openers are due each Friday. Students absent on Friday will
turn their openers in on Monday or on date of return. Homework is due by the
end of class. Class work will either be turned in at the completion of the
class period or completed as homework. Class work will be accepted late, but
grades will be penalized according to number of days late (10 points per day).
Projects will be accepted late, but will also be penalized in the same way.
Test/Quiz corrections: Tests and quizzes may be corrected for additional
points if 76 and below. Corrections must be written on a separate page, have
the complete question written out, the complete answer written out, and a page
reference from the textbook or title of worksheet where the information can be
found. I have required this as students were turning in incorrect corrections,
a waste of their time and mine. Students should learn from their mistakes.
Also, this helps them see the connection between the information on the
study/review guide and the test/quiz. Grades will be improved as follows: an F
may rise to a D, and a D to a C, depending on the quality and completeness of
the corrections.
Class work is not eligible for corrections. Papers with no name will not
be graded. Papers with only a name will be penalized for lack of date and/or
period (5 points each). I DO NOT give extra credit.

PLEASE REMEMBER!!!!!!!!! The student is responsible for scheduling her/his
makeup work. As most of our classwork consists of labs, the students will need
to schedule time during lunches to come in and complete the work. They have 3
days after returning to school to have the work completed.
