My child was absent. How can he or she get the makeup work?
There are various ways to get makeup work. Students should check with the
agenda board and make sure their own personal agenda is filled out. In
addition, the table of contents should be copied. Students may need to
advocate for themselves if they need a stamp of a homework assignment that
was checked the previous day.
--------------------------------------
What are stamps calendars?
Every student has a stamps calendar for each core class. A completed homework
assignment will get a stamp the day it is due. For example, if a workbook
page is assigned on Monday night, the page will be checked Tuesday. If it is
complete, a stamp is placed on the calendar Tuesday. At the completion of
five stamps, the calendars are collected for a homework grade. Each stamp
therefore counts 20 points of the 100.
Students can submit a late assignment for half credit (10 points) up until
the calendars are collected for a grade. As such, a 90% on a stamp calendar
means the student had four of the five assignments on time, and the missing
one was submitted late for half credit before the calendar was collected.
There is not always a stamp every day for every class, but most classes will
have at least 3 in a week. Ask your child to see his or her stamps calendar
for each of the four core classes. If you see lots of "blank space", you may
want to ask your child about the homework.

How do I know if there is homework?
STUDENTS WILL HAVE HOMEWORK EVERY DAY. Your child's agenda should be filled
out in all core classes everyday, first thing each class period. Even in the
rare instance that there is no homework in a given class on a given night, on
the agenda board we would write "Watch the News", "Read for your Weekly
Reading Log", or even, "Have a nice Tuesday". This keeps students in the
habit of copying the agenda. Also, parents then know to not accept blank
spots or "none" on their child's agenda. Then, you should be able to 'match
up' what is in the agenda with an assignment. Also, the previously mentioned
stamp calendar for each core class shoudl give you a visual representation of
how your child is doing in completing his or her homework.
