Attendance

Good attendance is a very important part of school success. We need
students here every day, on time. School at Rachel Freeman begins at 8:00.
Excessive tardies affect a child's learning and their ability to be
successful because they are missing vaulable instruction and information. If
your child must be absent, please send in a note the following day stating
the date & number of days absent, the reason, and your signature. The NC
Compulsory Attendance Law requires that absences be recorded as excused or
unexcused. If your child accumulates excessive unexcused absences, a referral
will be made to the school social worker and then possibly to the Judicial
Attendance Council. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance
or tardies, please contact you child's teacher or the school social worker.

     ** GOOD ATTENDANCE TIP ***
An alarm clock can be a valuable tool- and can be used by almost all
children of school age .  Help your child set the alarm the night before;
he/she can shut it off the next morning. Also, the more your child
does the night before the better. Prepare bookbags, lunches, and even
clothing the night before a school day.

** General Compulsory Attendence law: (NC G.S. 115C-378)**

" General Statute 115C-378 Provides that every parent, guardian or other
person in this state having charge or control of a child between the ages of
7 and 16, shall cause such a child to attend school continually for a period
equal to the time which the public shcool to which the child is assigned
shall be in session."
