I have been an art teacher for over 10 years and have lived, learned and
taught in many places. After graduating from the University of Arizona, I
started my art teaching career at a high school in a small Arizona town.
Before moving to North Carolina, I taught art to the elementary student on
the Fort Riley army post in Kansas for six years.
This is my fifth year of teaching art at Highcroft Drive Elementary and it
is a great place to teach and learn. I want to thank all of the parents who
have provided their children with a wealth of prior knowledge and a positive
attitude about art.
I try to bring out the artist in every student, and I enjoy watching their
skills and creativity blossom. I introduce students to a variety of media
and art styles. We look at the art of various cultures and historical
periods for inspiration, as well as draw inspiration from our own personal
experiences. I incorporate art vocabulary, color theory and drawing skills
into fun projects that students are motivated to do. I am frequently amazed
by what my students produce and I love to show off their projects in the
halls of the school and at local student exhibits.
When I am not at school, I like to spend time with my my husband and two
sons attending cultural events, cooking, reading, traveling, playing outside
and of course, making art.
