My name is Mrs. Barr. I'd like to tell you a little about myself. My
family moved to Cary from Oklahoma fifteen years ago. My husband, Steve Barr,
works at N.C. State University where he has been the Department Head in the
College of Management for ten years. He stepped down last year and is
doing research now. My oldest son, Cory, has a Master’s degree from the
University of Oklahoma in music technology. He is also working on a
doctorate degree from Stanford in artificial intelligence and computer
programming. My middle son, Drew, recently graduated from N.C. State and is
now a financial advisor in Raleigh. My youngest son, Philip, graduated in
engineering from N.C. State. He works for an engineering company in
Greenville, South Carolina.
Our extended families live in Texas where I grew up. Because of my Texas
heritage, I enjoy using the western theme in the classroom. Each year, I
have a new group of Mrs. Barr's Deputy Stars.
My professional experience includes a B.S. in Education from Texas Tech
University and graduate course work from Oklahoma State University. I
completed the Oklahoma Aerospace Program offered by NASA in 1994. This is my
twentieth year of teaching elementary school. I taught kindergarten for one
year, first grade for five years, and second grade for thirteen years. I
love to walk around my neighborhood, drive my sports car, and play with my
dog. I really enjoy going to our cabin on the weekends. I also love to
cook, read, and go out with friends.
During the coming year, your child and I will be spending many hours in
the classroom together. I want you to know that there is no place I would
rather be and no job that I would rather have. Together, as parents and
teacher, we can truly provide a comfortable, stimulating, nurturing, and
challenging environment for your child.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Barr
My mission is to make each child a success story.
