Units of Study

We are very excited about our themes this month:

Nov. 2-6:  Turkeys

       9-13:  Native Americans

     16-20:  Pilgrims and Thanksgiving

     23-25:  Symbols of the Season

Wed., Nov. 11-SCHOOL HOLIDAY

Talk with your child about Veteran's Day and why we celebrate this holiday.

Friday, Nov. 20-We will have a Thanksgiving Feast with Mrs. Glover's kindergarten class.  Each child will be asked to bring in something for our meal.  We will send home the list in a separate

note.  We will also dress as Native Americans & Pilgrims for our feast.

The next few weeks will be very busy and fun for us as we learn about turkeys, Native Americans, Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving.  We will write stories about what we are thankful for this year.  Mrs. Mirante and I are very thankful for the opportunity to teach your precious children each day here at Highcroft Drive Elementary!!!  Thank you for entrusting them to us. We are excited to see their growth and development this year!!

We also realize that in two and a half weeks, our second quarter will end, we will track out and half of our kindergarten year will be over!!!  Where does the time go???  Please encourage your child to always try to do his/her best, to listen and follow directions and to be kind and loving to all we meet throughout our day.

Book Fair News

Thanks to all the parents and children who came to the Book Fair Family Night.  Thanks, too, for the books you gave the class!  Our Preview Day is Tues., Nov. 10th and our Purchase Day is Thurs., Nov. 12th.  Send in money on Thursday with your child if you are interested in buying books from the PTA Book Fair.  Thanks!

Service Projects this Month

We will participate in the school-wide Food Drive from Nov. 9-13.  Please send in canned food to our classroom, as we will tally our totals!!  We are learning to use our math skills in a variety of ways.

STOP HUNGER NOW…is an event my church is sponsoring on Saturday, November 21.  Volunteers are needed to help package freeze-dried meals to go to other countries.  Teams of 4-5 people combine rice, vegetables, chicken broth, etc. to create meals that can be shipped to countries that are in desperate need of food.  Last year we packages 80, 00 meals in 4 hours!!!  Our goal this year is 100,000 meals in 6 hours!!  The hours are 9:00-11:00a.m., 12:00-2:00p.m., 2:30-4:30p.m.  We will be working in the Fellowship Hall at the Kirk of Kildaire, Presbyterian Church at 200 High Meadow Drive in Cary.  If you would like to come for a few hours and help make a difference in the lives of very hungry people….please email me @ kswells@wcpss.net.  5 year-olds are the youngest we can have on a team.  This would be a great Saturday service project for anyone who wants to participate.  I will be there all day!!!  Please let me know if you can attend as soon as you know.  It will help our planning of teams.  Thanks!!

Have a great month!!!  We will!!!  If you have any questions, concerns or just want to chat…send me a note or an email.

“We work best when we work together!!”
