This is my sixth year teaching at Highcroft, and my eighth year teaching
Kindergarten. I am a National Board Certified Teacher, and I am also the
current Kindergarten grade chair, Highcroft's science representative to the
county, and a mentor teacher who helps new teachers. I attended Campbell
University where I received degrees in Elementary Education, Biology, and
Chemistry. As this may tell you, I really enjoy science and tend to include
many discovery type activities in my lessons. I currently live in Fuquay-
Varina with my husband, newly adopted son, two cats, and two dogs, Molly and
Gracie.
I believe it is my job to meet the needs of every student in my classroom.
This includes not only their academic needs, but also any social or
emotional needs they may have as well. I tend to set high expectations for
my students, and have found that students will grow to meet these
expectations. I also think learning in Kindergarten should be fun. We
only get to be kids once, and children should enjoy this time while
they can. Therefore, much of the learning that is done in our classroom is
through hands on experiences. Kindergarten is also a year where the
students learn to interact socially. Therefore, our classroom environment
provides many opportunities for the students to work with their peers. I
think Kindergarten is the best year to be in school, and my favorite
part of teaching it is seeing the amazing amount of growth the students make
in just this one year!
