I have been teaching academically gifted students for fourteen years, as a
resourse teacher, regular classroom/self-contained 5th grade gifted
students, and I have worked with student teachers majoring in gifted studies
at the college level. I have taught in Columbus, Mississippi, Tuscaloosa,
Alabama, and Champaign, Illinois. I hold a M.Ed/Gifted Studies.
I have developed and presented curriculum studies related to gifted and
talented for The Mississippi University for Women and the University of
Alabama.
My mission is to develop a partnership with home, school, and community. To
provide a safe learning environment that promotes the cognitive, physical,
social and emotional development of our diverse student body while
challenging them to become and to excel as:
Lifelong Learners, Independent thinkers, Respectful individuals, and
Responsible Citizens.
I want to set high, attainable goals, and follow through to the best of my
ability. Through personal dedication and the help of alliances, I hope to
accomplish the following goals:
1. Be the best advocate for the gifted that I can be
2. to help parents better understand their gifted children and to encourage
them to take a more active part in providing an outstanding educational
environment for learning and growing physically, emotionally, socially, and
intellectually;
3. to be dedicated to the teaching profession;
4. to accept the challenge of giving more than is expected while striving
for excellence; and
5. to know when to ask, to give, and to express appreciation for guidance
from fellow alliances.
Each child is a unique individual; possessing talents, abilities, goals, and
dreams. I believe each child can only be successful when we acknowledge all
aspects of that child's life; addressing their needs, developing character,
and uplifting their spirit.
I know that the goals I hope to accomplish will take many years. For like a
seed planted by one person which blossoms during the cultivation of another,
reaching educational goals requires the combined effort of many.
