Dear Parents,

I have been able to meet with most parents during the past two weeks. If you still haven't set up a fall conference and would like to, please send me an email and we can arrange one for when we track back in to school next month.

Our reading objectives this quarter focus on non-fiction text. So we will continue to study the features/structure of expository (informational) text during guided reading. In the area of writing, we have been working on a biography report about a famous American. Every student has been researching and should have completed a graphic organizer. They can write and revise their information so that it flows progressively. The lotus diagram was simply a tool to help them get their ideas down on paper. They should all have a copy of the directions in their binder. The visual presentation is due the day of the Wax Museum. We have also started writing a non-fiction trade book about something that they are an expert on (due Dec. 11). For this project, they will not be able to use the internet to research their topic (they will be the primary source).

In math, we are beginning Unit 4 (Geometry). Students have been working in team time groups for support & enrichment as needed. In science, students having been planning, building, testing and evaluating investigations of kenetic & potential energy with vehicles (built from K’NEX pieces). We will also learn about designing cost-efficient vehicles and apply this knowledge to real-life situations.

Finally, I would like wish everyone a wonderful track out. I hope that you enjoy this break from school and homework and have some good quality time with your family :-)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at school via e-mail: clynch1@wcpss.net

                                                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                  Mrs. Cheri Anne Lynch
