Dear Parents,
Our next project is the nonfiction book, due on December 11th. We're working on this assignment in school; however, you may want to ask your child about their topic and about the progress that they're making. The directions & rubric can be found in their 3-ring binder. They are not allowed to research their topic. They should be using nonfiction text features (titles, subtitles, bulleted lists, italicized or bold words, pictures, and captions), as well as nonfiction text structure (sequence, cause/effect, compare/contrast, hierarchy). I have plenty of examples of completed projects (from former students) to share with the class, to help them see what the final product should look like.
Your child should be reading for 30 minutes every night. We write this in their green homework agenda, but many students are not reading enough to write a strong summary in their weekly LRJ.
I hope that you have a very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the 4-day weekend!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cheri Anne Lynch
