Literacy
*Writing – pick out a special “cool” book as a journal
*Write a letter to someone and mail
Problem Solving/Math:
*Use real life problems such as your brother is 9 and you are 6. How much
older is your brother? When he is 10 - how old will you be?
*Talk about coins, dollars and their values. How much do you need to buy
the
toy you would like?
*Play games, such as Yahtzee.
*Review the sports page: Scores and standings
Weather
*Listen to the weather report on the news daily
*Check the newspaper each morning with your child about the weather
*Have your child go outside in the morning (on the porch) to use their
senses
to tell about the weather
*Read books about tornadoes, lightning, hurricanes
*Talk about the clouds and what it looks like outside
Visit the library or used book store with your child. Help him or her
choose books and to obtain a library card of his or her own.
Read to/with your child for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. Ask those
retell questions.
Cook:
Have your child help you in the kitchen to bake or cook. This is a great
way to talk and learn about measurement, read ingredients and follow
directions.
