My name is Katie Glover and I am going to be your child’s Kindergarten
teacher this year. I am a graduate of Meredith College where I was a North
Carolina Teaching Fellow. I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and an
Elementary (K-6) teaching license. I am also working on my Masters in
Education at East Carolina University. I am originally from Asheboro, NC
(home of the NC Zoo!). This past “summer”, I got married my to my new
husband, Ryan. We live in Cary with our spaniel, Ellie. I love going to
the beach in the summer, cooking and baking, being outside, reading, NCSU
sports, and of course, ladybugs!
I don’t consider teaching to be my job, but instead, my calling and
profession. I believe my classroom should be a positive learning
environment with hands on experience and learning by doing. My lesson plans
will be developed around the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and our
pacing guides. I believe in teaching integrated units because I feel this
method is more beneficial in the children’s daily life experiences.
Children need to experience reading, writing and math in many different ways
that are meaningful to them. Reading is a lifelong skill and it begins with
a balanced literacy program consisting of shared and guided reading, read-
alouds, self-selected reading, shared and interactive writing, and
independent writing. In order to successfully teach, classroom management
is vital. Classroom management is the key to running a safe and orderly
environment for students. I believe in positive reinforcement- focusing on
good behavior to encourage all students to follow the good example.
