Number of books students can check out
Grade K - one book
Grade 1 - two books
Grade 2 - two books plus project book when needed
Grade 3 - three books (includes reading buddy book)
Grade 4 - three books plus project/reading buddy book
Grade 5 - three books plus project/reading buddy book
(If a student has an overdue book, check out may be limited or stopped until
books are returned)
Can I see what books are in our library from home?
Yes, you can! Go to destiny.wcpss.net and click on Highcroft Drive and you
can find out if we have a book in our collection and see if it is checked in
or out.
How to Checkout Books
Find a book that interests you. Then use the five finger rule to see if the
book is just right. You may want to use one of the search stations (our
online catalog) to help you find a book. You can always ask one of the media
center staff members for help. When you have finished making your choice,
bring your book(s) to the computer desk for checkout. Enjoy!
Return of Books
Books are due within one week after checkout. Kindergartners have a one
week check out period. We will remind you at your library
visit. You may return books during Trail Time. We have a computer
station set up for returning and checking out books.
Renewal
You may bring your library book(s) with you to the media center to renew if
you need to keep them longer than the usual time limit.
Early Return?
You may come to the media center during TRAIL time to return books.
Overdue Books?
We do not charge overdue book fines, but if you have a book overdue by a
week or longer you will need to return it before checking out more books.
Lost or Damaged Books?
We ask that you pay to replace any lost or damaged books before you borrow
again. It is our policy to order from our book provider so that the marc
record and barcode match as well as providing a "library bound" replacement
for circulation. Our media center will order the replacement copy after the
book replacement fee has been paid.
Found Books
If you have paid for a lost book and it is later found, we can only
reimburse you during the current school year. Reimbursements are processed
through the school office and mailed to you directly.
My "Library Day"?
Check with your classroom teacher for the exact day of your library visit.
At this time classes will be visiting the media center weekly.
Parent's Checkout?
For now, we are checking books out only to students and staff members of
Highcroft Drive Elementary School.
Moving?
If you are withdrawing from Highcroft, please return all materials borrowed
from the media center. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep
our collection current.
Can I purchase a book for the Media Center?
If you are interested in purchasing a book for the media center,you may
contact a media staff member or go to the Celebration Book on the PTA website
for more information. This is a nice way to honor your child, teacher, or
family member. What a great gift idea?
