Peek at the Week

October 5th – 9th

Thursday, October 15th is the 2nd grade performance following the PTA
meeting. The kids will be performing several songs they have learned in
music class. Parents are asked to bring their child to their teacher’s
classroom between 5:45-6:00. The performance will start promptly at 6:30. I
hope to see you there!

Any snack donations and prizes for the prize box are greatly appreciated.

What did your child do this week in school?

This week in math, students continued solving story problems. We focused on
solving comparison story problems and problems with not enough or extra
information. We will continue working with word problems next week.

This week in reading, students read both a fiction and nonfiction story
focusing on owls. Students read Owls and Owl Moon and identified fiction and
nonfiction text features. We also identified similar text features found in
different types of nonfiction text (i.e. photographs.) Next week we will be
reading a variety of fables.

This week in writing, students finished their descriptive writing story. The
stories turned out really cute and will be put on display in the hallway.
Next week, students will begin writing a fictional pumpkin story that goes
along with our next Fun Friday craft.

This week in spelling, our spelling list was a review of the three previous
spelling lists. Students spelled words with double consonants, consonant
clusters, and long vowels with silent e. Next week’s list focused on
frequently misspelled words.

This week in social studies, we read and discussed Unit 2: People and
Government. This unit focused on community leaders, choosing leaders, rules
and laws, and citizens working together. Next week we will begin Unit 3: A
World of Many People.

Have a BEAUTIFUL weekend!
