Early Childhood Newsletter: Week of May 4-8, 2009
We are all so excited about the arrival of our painted lady butterflies. In
the upcoming days we will be watching the painted lady larvae (caterpillars)
undergo the last three stages of their life cycle. Right now, the larvae
have been very busy eating the food inside the vial (container). Each day
brings a new discovery and fascination with the larvae and their changing
bodies. It will take 10 days before the larvae are ready to hang from the
top of the vial, 1-2 days for the larvae to prepare their chrysalises, and
then another 7-10 days until the butterflies emerge. It is such an amazing
process to observe! We simply can’t wait for the painted lady butterflies to
enter the world!!!!

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL PRESENTS, CARDS, FOOD, and SWEETS.
We really do feel appreciated by all of our parents and children.
Barvazim: We are now authors. Our book, The Adventures of Flat Freddy, is
now out in print. Your child will be bringing it home to “read” to you.
Enjoy! We planted our mini mystery gardens and two large mystery gardens this
week. No one knows what type of vegetable or flower will grow from seed #1
or #2. We also planted beans, green onions, pumpkins, squash, and corn. The
corn and bean seeds won’t even sprout until the summer, but the other seeds
will hopefully sprout about the time our butterflies are born. Our clean up
song this week is Everything’s Grows by Raffi, which is certainly fits with
what we are learning in our classroom.
Tzfarde’im: This week it’s all about caterpillars. We made caterpillars
with popsicle sticks, paper towel tubes, and pomp poms, as well as wrote
stories about them. Learning about caterpillars wouldn’t be complete without
reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The best part was
actually being able to “feed” the main character. Look around our classroom
and you will see our symmetrical paintings.
Daggim: We are delighted to have the caterpillars in our classroom. As a
class project, we created our very own very hungry caterpillar which now
hangs on our classroom wall. We also made butterflies on a stick. Our big
project this week was the Mother’s Day gift and card. We love our moms and
really wanted to make a gift they will keep forever.
