About The Teacher

Cecilia Payne is the Lead Kindergarten teacher. I am a graduate of The
University of Virginia where I majored in Economics and Religion. I am a
certified Montessori teacher, and believe that in a nurturing, supportive
environment children will be independent and confident learners. I have
three beautiful boys, Thomas, Daniel, and Michael, and a wonderful, caring
husband, Charlie. This starts my twentieth year teaching and I have taught
at a variety of levels. My goal is that your children will be as excited to
come to school next year as they were in the beginning of their Kindergarten
year. I look forward to a wonderful school year getting to know your
children.

Sally Brown is the Investigators’ Teaching Assistant. I was born and raised
in Maplewood, New Jersey. I am a graduate of Skidmore College with a BS in
Political Economy. I moved to Chapel Hill in 1999 with my husband, Steve,
and our three children; Sam, Jake, and Rose. I was introduced to the Lerner
School when I enrolled Rose in pre-school even before arriving in Chapel
Hill. Rose attended LJCDS for two years and we were completely impressed
with the community. My husband and I have been active supporters of the
school since and I'm thrilled to be a member of the faculty. While at home
raising my children I have been an active volunteer in the Chapel Hill
schools both in the classrooms and as a School Reading Partner at Estes
Hills and Rashkis Elementary Schools. I have been an active member of Beth
El synagogue in Durham on the Membership and Sisterhood boards. I enjoy
tennis, reading, hiking and making chocolate chip cookies for my family.
I'm forever in search of the perfect recipe!

Mission For The Class

During this school year, children will come together to form a learning
community. This community consists of unique individuals, each with his/her
own learning style, interests, history, and hopes. Our goal is to provide
each student with a strong foundation that will assist them with an
excellent
start on their educational journey. With your support, we can look forward
to a productive, creative, and fun year together!
