Dear Parents,
I am very excited about this semester. Your child will learn about the major
events that happened from prehistory through after World War I. Below you
will find information that will be helpful so you aware of how my class is
structured throughout the semester.
WARMUPS: When students come into my room at the beginning of class, they
will work on a question on the board that will cover what we discussed the
day before in class. EVERY FRIDAY these will be collected and graded.
HOMEWORK: Your child will have homework every night. He/she will need to
review notes that we take in class EVERY day so the material is not
overwhelming to them when they have the test. It is also helpful for your
child to re-read the sections in the book that we discuss in class. In
addition to their daily homework, other types of assignments they will have
to complete at home are organizers, projects, guided reading questions, etc.
These assignments will be checked for a grade the next day.
PROJECTS: Your child will have at LEAST one project a semester on a topic we
cover in class. Your child will be provided class time to work on the
project. They will also need to work on it at home.
TESTS: There are two methods that your child will take a test in my room.
The first method is the study guide I will give to them that covers all of
the material on the test. They will use this guide to study prior to the
test. The second method is open book. Your child will use the book to
locate and provide the answer to the question and then prove to me in writing
why that is the correct answer.
PARTICIPATION: Your child will receive a participation grade. He/She will
receive points by being prepared, participating in class, and following
instructions.
Please reference the chart below for the weights of the percentages that will
be used to determine your child’s final grade:
Participation 10% Participation 15%

Midterm 15%
1st Quarter Grade 37.5 % + 2nd Quarter Grade 37.5% + Final Exam 25%
