Grading PolicyOn this page you will find the mandated grading policy for all English I classes.
Late work and Make-Up Work Policies:
Turn in all assignments on time. Please read every word that follows: Late classwork and homework will be accepted for half credit if turned in the following day, and that includes work that you try to do in class and turn in late that period/day because you didn’t have it when I called for it! This does not apply to work that is late because of a legitimate absence. On major assignments, such as projects and essays, students will lose 10 points per day late and the points will be subtracted from the grade the student otherwise would have received if submitted on time. After five days, the major assignment will no longer be accepted and a zero will be issued. These will be assignments that students will have had ample time in and/or out of class to complete and therefore there should be no reason that they should not have turned it in.
Arranging to make up work missed due to absence is the responsibility of the student. You have 5 school days to make up missed work without having the grade penalized. However, beyond those five days, you have only until the midpoint of the semester or the end of the grading period (whichever comes first) to submit work for partial credit. You may also be required to take a test or quiz on the day of your return if you knew about it prior to your absence and therefore had adequate time to prepare. Also, if you are absent on the day a major assignment is due (an essay or project) you must bring the project the day you return and the office must excuse your absence to prevent you from having late points deducted.
