Procedures and Classroom Survival:
• Come to class on time and prepared every day
• All homework assignments should be completed prior to coming to class
and should be turned in to the appropriate place at the beginning of the
class period, unless otherwise stated.
• We will use the Cornell Note Taking technique to take notes in
class. Students are expected to use the technique and review their notes
each night outside of class.
• All turned in assignments should follow the following formatting
guidelines to receive full credit:
o Written in pencil, blue, or black ink
o No spiral binding / Clean notebook paper only!
o Proper Heading (in the upper right hand corner):
First and Last Name
Date
Block
o Assignment Title on the Top Line
• On test days, I will be doing notebook checks to make sure that
students are taking notes and keeping track of major assignments. I will be
looking for specific assignments and all of the notes that should have been
taken in Cornell Note Taking format for that particular unit.
o Notes Should include:
Date
Topic
Questions
3-4 sentence summary at the end of the day’s notes
• If you are absent, you are responsible for all work that you missed.
o Students are responsible for making up work within 5 days of their
absence. If a student knows in advance that he / she will be out, please
contact the school (350-2089) to pick up student assignments.
• Please remember that late work is late and that means a loss of
points (1 day late = -10, 2 days = -20, 3 days = -30, 4 days = -40).
Students will receive a 0 if an assignment is not turned in within 5 days of
due date.
• Bathroom Policy: Students will be given 6 bathroom passes for the 9
weeks that they may use during non-instructional time. The students must
have their Laney ID to use the bathroom and must have my consent and
signature prior to going. **At the end of the 9 weeks, the students will
have the opportunity of turning in their unused bathroom passes for 2 points
each of extra credit on their lowest test grade **
• Each student will be assigned a textbook. Textbook identification
numbers are located inside the front cover. Students are not to damage or
deface the textbook. Fines will be charged if textbooks are lost or
damaged. BOOK COVERS ARE MANDATORY. Students will be able to keep their
textbooks at home; however, there may be random textbook checks during the
semester to make sure you are properly caring for your book.
• Restricted Areas: Teacher’s file cabinets, desks, cabinets, TV, VCR,
and all technology equipment is off limits (unless expressed consent is
given).
• Fire Alarm / Drill – If the fire alarm goes off during class,
students are to follow the instructions for exiting the classroom.
Instructions are posted on a pink card to the left of the door. Outside the
students will stay with the teacher. This will insure that an accurate head
count of all students can be made. Students will re-enter the building in an
orderly manner.
