“Striving to be Exemplary in Mr. Lucas’s Class”

I look forward to teaching you this school year. Education is a
partnership between the teacher, student, and your parent. Communication is
an important component of helping you succeed.
	I can be reached at 350 – 2089, extension 338.
My e-mail address is plucas@nhcs.k12.nc.us. You can visit my website at
http://teacherweb.com/NC/LaneyHighSchool/MrPaulLucas.

1.	Come to class. Daily attendance is crucial to success.
2.	Come prepared. You should bring a notebook (three-ring binder) and
pencil/pen daily. For test taking, you should have a # 2 pencil.
3.	Be an active participant in class. Ask questions and contribute to
        classroom discussions.
4.	Complete all class and/or homework assignments.
5.	Review your notes on a daily basis.
6.	Keep up with your daily reading assignments (syllabus).

Guidelines for Classroom Management
1.	Be in your assigned desk, with materials ready for class, before the
second (tardy) bell sounds. Detentions are assigned to students who
        tardy to class.
2.	Pencils should be sharpened and any errands completed before the
        second (tardy) bell sounds.
3.	Treat each class member with courtesy, respect, and tolerance.
4.	Listen to instructions.
5.	Food, drinks, and/or candy should not be brought to class. Please
place any drink or water bottles and/or food inside your backpacks or
on the table near the door.
6.	The classroom is not the appropriate place for grooming.
7.	Take care of school property.
8.	Raise your hand to be recognized in order to ask questions or
        contribute to class discussion.
9.	The teacher, not the bell, dismisses the class.

Notebook
1.	All students are responsible for maintaining a notebook.
2.	A three-ring binder is required for note taking and organization.
3.	Date each entry in your notebook. Use either a pencil or black/blue
ink pen for note taking. Any handouts should also be dated and
        placed in your notebook.
4.	Organize your notebook into the following three sections:
                 Notes and Handouts;
Study Guides/Notebook and Flash Cards; and
                 Openers and Quotes.
Additional sections may be added during the semester.
5.	The study guides/notebook and flash cards counts as fifteen percent
        (15 %) of your grade.

Optional items that may prove useful include the following – highlighter(s),
index cards, glue stick(s), and a set of colored pencils. Several of these
items are also part of a wish list for the classroom.

Make up Work
1. Designated test days for Social Studies are either Tuesday or
        Thursday.
2.	It is your responsibility to make up any assignments missed.
3.	Make up test days are every Thursday.
4.	If absent, you are responsible for keeping up with the daily reading
assignments (syllabus). Define and/or identify the topics that
correspond with the day(s) you are absent.
5.	Being absent the day before a test is not an excuse to not take the
test. You have been given a syllabus.
6.	All make up tests will consist of identifications, brief responses,
        and an essay question.
