Event: STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities

Date: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, October 16th, 2013

Registration:  http://naturalsciences.org/programs-events/events/stem-career-showcase

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is proud and excited to be hosting the upcoming STEM Career Showcase- a conference for students with disabilities. In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month we invite you to bring a student with a disability to visit the Museum on October 16th to attend this conference from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

The conference will provide young students with disabilities, in grades 3-12, with the opportunity to interact with college students and working professionals with a variety of disabilities. Please save the date for this opportunity to connect your students with disabilities with role models that are pushing back the boundaries of knowledge, building new innovative products, and creating the new technologies of the future.

Please note that the intended audience for this conference is academic students with disabilities in grades 3-12 that are performing at or near grade level. One-to-one chaperone is required. Please note that this conference is free of cost but does require pre-registration. For any questions you may contact Liani Yirka, Curator of Special Populations at the
NC Museum of Natural Sciences, at liani.yirka@ naturalsciences.org or at 919.707.9887.

Wake PTA Special Education & Inclusion Committee

SEIC Spring announcements 2013:
Did you know that Wake PTA has a Special Education and Inclusion Committee? We work with PTA leaders to support efforts toward greater inclusion and understanding of the special needs families in their school community. We support families providing information about current events in special education in Wake County Schools and the surrounding community and by hosting educational workshops. Our committee provides a website (www.wake-seic.org), a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wakeseic) , electronic newsletter service, and educational workshops. It takes a committed group of volunteers to make this happen each year.

Just like most PTAs, we are gearing up for the 2013-14 school year and need to fill some vacated slots with new volunteers. If you or any you know are interested in taking an active role in Wake PTA SEIC, please let them know that we will be having our transition meeting year this Sunday in the meeting room of the Whole Foods on Wade Avenue at 7:00pm.
