I am originally from New Bern, NC and graduated from New Bern High School in
1971 and from East Carolina University in 1975. I taught at JH Rose High
School in Greenville, NC for two years before moving to Mobile, Al, and then
to Myrtle Beach, SC. I was a Myrtle Beach SEAHAWK from 1985 until 2006. I
moved back to New Bern in June 2006 to help take care of my parents. My Dad
passed away in April of 2007. I received my National Board
Certification in November 2007 after a long, rigorous process, despite my
Dad's illness. I continue to take care of my mother who has dementia.
My favorite activities outside of school are horseback riding, gardening,
and playing with my dogs. I have a miniature Schnauzer and my husband has a
German Shepherd. I have a horse, Beau. He stands at 15 hands and is a
Missouri Foxtrotter. I also raise chickens and love the fresh eggs I get
from them. My husband has a horse also, Willie Nelson. He is double
registered as a Tennessee Walker and Spotted Saddle horse. He has very
unusual ice blue eyes.
I love music, especially country music, as my husband is a
musician and entertainer, having played with such artists as Dolly Parton,
Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, Roy Clark, and many more. He entertained
crowds at the Carolina Opry for over 13 years, and at the Crystal Coast
Jamboree for 2 years. He has opened his own country and gospel music show in
the Masonic Theater in downtown New Bern, the Jarman Opry.
I have two children, a son who is a Coast Guard Investigator currently
stationed in Key West, Florida, and a daughter, who is in mobile marketing
in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have 2 precious little granddaughters, Alexis,
who is 4 years old and Brianne who is one year old, and a grandson, Caleb,
who is 1 year old. I have a brand new grandson, Blake, born on August 17,
2009.
I love my students and do whatever it takes to make sure that their foreign
language experience is both enjoyable and productive.
To work cooperatively in our groups and actively practice daily to
communicate in Spanish via listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Strategic Learning Goal:
By the end of the semester, 90% of the students in the class will score
proficient or higher in all of the NC Foreign Language Standards as measured
by a final grade of 85% or higher.
