March 2008
Dear Parents:
We concluded our zoo studies in early March and began our unit on weather. We
discussed “lamb and lion days”, and have observed the variability of the
weather. Each morning we review the forecast on the internet.
March studies centered around the holidays during the month. We enjoyed
celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a day full of learning and fun. Activities
included adopting an Irish name, singing songs, graphing Lucky Charms cereal,
and weighing and measuring potatoes. Writing and rhyming lessons focused on
the holiday. Positional words and map skills were reinforced as we searched
for a pot of gold left by visiting leprechauns.
Learning center activities to come will be tied to the Easter holiday. Art fun
will include color mixing and creating Spring hats. For Math and Language
Arts, we will practice patterning, counting, making words, reading songs/poems
and writing.
School is back in session on Monday, March 31st. A fieldtrip to a nearby farm
is being planned for April. (more information to come) A third writing test
will be given in March. It is important that your child be well rested to
ensure they perform their best. Continue to read, work on letter recognition
and letter writing with your child. Thank you for your continued support. Best
wishes for a fun filled Spring Break.
