Monday 12/7
Homework: Find the Least Common Multiple of the following sets of numbers:
1) 2 and 3
2) 5 and 8
3) 10 and 12
4) 4, 9, and 24
5) 2, 3, and 5
Example: Find the LCM of 5 and 13:
List Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65
List Multiples of 13: 13, 26, 39, 52, 65
Since 5 and 13 have a multiple that is 65 and they do not share a multiple before 65, you know that 65 is the least of the common multiples.

Thursday 12/3
Homework:
Use both methods to find the Greatest Common Factor of the following sets of numbers:
1) 14 and 35
2) 16 and 36
*Method 1: List ALL of the factors for the number 14 on top of ALL of the factors for the number 35 - circle the ones that are in common - and then find the GREATEST common factor (GCF)
*Method 2: Make a factor tree for the numbers 16 and 36. Write the prime factorization for the number 16 above the prime factorization for the number 36. Circle all of the common prime factors, and then MULTIPLY them together.
Quiz tomorrow on Sections 5.1 and 5.2!

Thursday 10/22
Homework: p. 171 #12 - 19
Classwork: Today in class we checked last night's homework: p. 167 #1 - 17 All.
We then learned how to divide decimals by a whole number - Section 4.3 on p. 169.
To divide decimals by a whole number, first place the decimal point from the divident into the quotient. Next, divide to find the quotient. If the quotient ends with a remainder, add a zero and continue dividing. Also, be sure to place a zero in as a place holder when dividing and the divisor cannot go into a given dividend.

Wednesday 10/21
Homework: Winning team: p. 167 #1 - 17 ODDS
Other team: p. 167 #1 - 17 ALL
Classwork: Checked Homework from Monday and Tuesday (p. 161 #1 - 31)
p. 164 - 166: Section 4.3 - Multiplying Decimals
We learned how to multiply a decimal number times another decimal number.
*You do NOT line up the decimal points
Step 1: multiply regularly ignoring the decimal points
Step 2: count decimal places in problem
Step 3: add decimal point to final product.
We also learned how to multiply decimals to find the area of a rectangle: A = lw
and a square: A = side(side) or "side squared"
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Tuesday 10/20
Homework: p. 161 #24 - 31
Classwork: p. 159 - 160
In class we learned about when to use the distributive property - when you are multiplying two numbers by one common number.
We also learned how to use mental math with the distributive property to multilpy a number by a large number by breaking down the bigger number into its components, making it easier to multiply: ex. 6(87) = 6(90-3).
Finally, we learned how to use the distributive property to multiply a whole number by a decimal number. ex. 8(6.1) = 8(6 + 0.1) = 8(6) + 8(0.1)
For classwork, we did p. 160 YTN #1 - 8

Also for homework, make test corrections following the same pattern we have done all year. Write out the original problem. Show all work to find the right answer, and then EXPLAIN why you missed it on the test. All corrections should be stapled to the FRONT of the test. Corrections are due on Monday.
