Introduction to Theology of the Body

Basilica of St. Lawrence

Asheville

Saturday, November 21, 2009, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
This seminar is open to all adults interested in Pope John Paul II’s extraordinary “Theology of the Body.” We especially welcome religion teachers, catechists, youth ministers, and those working with engaged couples and in marriage ministries. Cost is $15, which covers the price of the workbook each participant receives. Registration and payment in advance is necessary to reserve a place and a workbook. You may order lunch for an additional $8.00. However, seating for lunch is limited to the first 100. There is also a wide variety of eateries nearby. Saturday Mass and Benediction at the Basilica is 7:30 – 8:30 am. A light breakfast will be available from 8:00 – 8:45 am. Sign-in is from 8:00 – 9:00 am. There will be four sessions each lasting one hour. Teachers can earn four credit renewal hours for the conference, five if they include Mass and Benediction.  Our teacher will be Bill Donaghy. His biography follows.

Bill Donaghy

Theology of the Body Institute Certified Speaker

Bill began working in the fields of mission and evangelization in 1999. Through his previous work with the Pontifical Mission Societies, he’s given hundreds of talks on the spirituality of mission to young people, sharing his experiences of missionary work in Haiti, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic, as well as parish and young adult ministry in the United States.

In October of 2000, Bill was chosen to represent his country in a special tribute for the Jubilee of Missionaries in Rome. He was given a simple cross by Pope John Paul II and called by the Holy Father to “bring Jesus back to your country.” It was this incredible experience that led Bill to begin the Mission Moment, a teaching ministry dedicated to the New Evangelization. Through talks, retreats, and missions, Bill points to the very core of what we believe as Catholics – to the depths of the encounter, communion, and mission that God is calling each of us to in building a “culture of life” and a “civilization of love,” in the words of Pope John Paul II.

Through his collaboration with the Theology of the Body Institute, mentored and trained by Christopher West, Bill speaks widely on Pope John Paul II’s groundbreaking teaching on human sexuality. He has spoken in Canada and throughout the US to a variety of audiences.

Bill’s live radio show called The Heart of Things, broadcasts each week via In His Sign Network, 800 AM. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Visual Arts, a Bachelors in Philosophy, and a Masters in Systematic Theology. He teaches theology at Malvern Preparatory School, as well as Immaculata University, and lives in Lansdowne, PA, with his wife and family.

Extra! Teen Session

Bill Donaghy will offer a short session for teens the same evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Registration is open to the first 100 only. Cost is $7.00. Pre-registration and payment is necessary to reserve a place. Please check out Bill Donaghy’s blog at http://theloveworthwaitingfor.blogspot.com     to get an idea of theology of the body for youth.
