Myers Weekly News

We hope that everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas vacation. The students are excited to start their next science unit on weather. During this unit we will learn about the water cycle, solids, liquids and gasses. There are some wonderful nonfiction and fiction books that will be fun to introduce to the students.

In spelling we will start our unit on contractions. For the test, the students will be given the word (i.e. can’t) and asked to spell it. However, they will also be tested at the end of each week on what two words make up the contraction.  We will continue our word of the day vocabulary program. The words for this week are: palm, hobby, balcony, saucer, and nibble.

In writing the students will be using their knowledge of adjectives to write a descriptive piece about a snowman that they drew.  We will begin formally introducing writer’s workshop to the students. They have quickly caught on to the idea that revision makes their stories stronger.

Congratulations to Anna Claire who is panther of the week. The students are doing a great job taking care of Paz the panther when he comes home and writing interesting journal entries about their adventures together.

Reminders:Tuesday is dress down day for January birthdays.

As we build independence, try to say goodbye to your child at the ramp or drop them off in the carpool line.

We are really emphasizing good handwriting. Please make sure that all homework assignments are done with the same care that we are expecting at school.
