Kindergarten Weekly News

November 20, 2009

We just finished writing our sixth book, Eating our way through the Alphabet!  This is an ABC book all about food. We will add it to our “Books We Made” tub….some of our favorite books to read during free time! Writing this book reinforced our new popcorn word, “for”(i.e.”T is for…”)  We also added a new name to our word wall, Nico.  We are excited to have Nico Gennaro join our class! Nico has a sister in second grade.  Welcome Nico!

We have been busy preparing for our upcoming Thanksgiving Feast.  We read lots of books about the First Thanksgiving, decided who will be Pilgrims and Native Americans and graphed our favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner...dessert won the majority!

I was, once again, extremely proud of the children’s behavior during the weekly school Mass.  Our goal for this week was to participate in the Our Father and the responses in the Introductory Rite.  We will continue to review a little part of the mass each week.

It was  great to see so many of you at the Book Fair. Many thanks for all of the books that were purchased from the “wish list”.  We are delighted to have these additions to our classroom library!

Look for a permission slip coming home in your child’s Friday Folder for our next Field Trip.  We will be going to Artquest at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center.  This will be a great hands-on experience for the children following up a math unit on shapes, symmetry and solids.

Lupita Espitia is our Panther of the Week! Lupita has been working hard on her handwriting and is quite an artist!  She is always a kind friend to others! Congratulations Lupita!

 A couple of upcoming reminders:

  • 11/24 Thanksgiving Feast. You do not need to pack a lunch or snack for this day.
  • 11/24 Early Dismissal @ 1:15pm
  • 12/1 Field Trip to Artquest
  • We are collecting "pennies for peace"

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Mrs. Williams
