Kindergarten Weekly News

December 4, 2009

We started our week with the lighting of the first Advent candle.  We heard the bible story of the angel appearing to Mary and telling her the Good News about carrying God’s son, Jesus.  “Who is Coming?” is the title of the mural that we are creating as we prepare for the birth of baby Jesus. This week your child brought home their own Advent calendar to “build” at home.  They were asked to keep it in a special place and add to it each day.  We got right to work this week with other special projects too.  We completed a unit on fairy tales and had fun identifying the common elements of a fairy tale…….ie “once upon a time…, how things come in three, make-believe and happy endings! We sorted the fairy tale characters into animals, people and other and graphed the results.  We learned about a new word family “an”, brainstormed words and wrote them on our gingerbread “man”.  We continued our Geometry unit in Math on solid shapes.  We identified examples of solids, especially ones we see during the Christmas season.  Next week we will add some “solid” ornaments to our  Christmas tree in the classroom. We had a great time at Art Quest on Tuesday.  We had the opportunity to paint, work with clay, create, build and use our imagination.

Next week we will revisit Mexico and learn how they celebrate Christmas as we prepare for our multicultural event, “Christmas Around the World”! There will be more info coming home about this next week.

Many Thanks...

Thank you so much for the beautiful spiritual bouquet!  I was overwhelmed with emotion as I read the beautiful note about the prayers your children have been saying.  I was honored to share them and the beautiful flowers with my family.

Thank you to all of the volunteers that made our Thanksgiving feast such a success; especially, Mrs. Stetler, Mrs. Bevis, Mrs.Gennaro, and Mrs.Bagnoli.  Finally, thank you to our field trip drivers to Art Quest: Mr. Cetrone, Mrs. Stetler, Mrs. Witte, and Mrs. Bagnoli.  I know this is a busy time of the year and we appreciate all our volunteers!!!

Congratulations...

Katie Leonard is our Panther of the Week! Katie has made lots of friends since she joined our class.  She always comes to school with a smile on her face and ready to learn!

Congratulations Katie!
