Kindergarten Weekly NewsNovember 13, 2009
During this short week we began our next theme on Pilgrims, Native Americans and the First Thanksgiving. The children did a wonderful job on writing about what they are thankful for. We have been working on beginning our sentences with a capital letter, spacing between our words and ending our sentences with a period. We added another popcorn word, “am” to our Word Wall. In Math we continued our unit on shapes and symmetry. The children enjoyed using the Smartboard to identify shapes, draw lines of symmetry and create patterns with shapes.
A highlight of our week was the Veteran’s Day Mass. The children presented the veterans with their painted pots of flowers after the Mass. We were honored to recognize some of our own parents as veterans; Mr. and Mrs. Stetler( Nikolas) and Mr. Balog (Abby).
We are planning a Thanksgiving feast with the Pre-K and First Grade on Tuesday, Nov.24. The children will rotate to the different classrooms in the morning for a variety of activities. We will then have a traditional feast. The coordinator for the Thanksgiving Feast, Mrs. Stetler, will be contacting those who signed up to help with the feast.
As we enter such a busy time of year, don’t forget to read to your child daily. This is the best homework for a Kindergartener! Some of the children are excited that now they are reading to you! Remember to record these books on your monthly reading log for Book-IT! Our goal is a minimum of 15 books. I was happy to see so many of the children went way above and beyond this goal last month……Way to go…...Keep reading!!!!
A couple of upcoming reminders:
