Dear Parents,
It's been a busy time in 2nd grade lately! The second grade classes did a
super job leading the Halloween prayer service for kindergarten and 1st grade
last Friday afternoon. It was nice to see so many parents there to witness
the reading, singing and dancing that made the service so special.
Today, the second grade classes visited Historic Oak View Park. The park
guides led three very educational and interesting sessions on cotton growing
and processing and the development of Eli Whitney's cotton gin, domestic
chores, such as cooking and washing, in the 1800s, and artifact
identificaton. Thank you to Mrs. Winstead, Mrs. Castiller, Dr. Ercolino,
Mrs. McKnight and Mrs. Ogburn for chaperoning today. After our picnic lunch,
we took a short walk around the grounds on our own before heading back to
school. (Be sure to check your child's pockets for cotton picked at the
park. Apparently it will clog up your washing machine.)
Thank you to the Dions and the Manzellas for providing treats for our
Halloween Treat Day last Friday. The children enjoyed the cookies and a
movie in the afternoon.
If you are interested in leading reading groups on Monday afternoons from 2
to 2:30, please contact MaryBeth Winstead to see on which Mondays helpers are
still needed.
Special Persons' Day is this Friday, November 6. Special Persons should
arrive at school at 9:30, sign in at the office, and report to the youngest
child's homeroom. (Teachers will have a sign-in sheet in the classroom, in
the event you are not able to sign in in the office.) Lunches will be left
in these homerooms. Mass will begin at 10:00 am. Students and Special
Persons will then go to the classroom or other area to which they've been
assigned to have lunch. School will dismiss at 11:45 am. PLEASE BE AWARE
THAT WE MUST PLAN FOR FRONT CARPOOL TO BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 11:45. Please
consider this when you are parking at school Friday morning. Please also
remember to sign out the children with whom you are leaving before you leave
school for the day.
Thanks for everything you do for our class! Have a great week.
