Homework Policy

Homework is a very important part of 4th grade. First, it allows
students to review material and develop questions they can ask in class.
Homework is also a study tool. When students put time and effort into
homework they are far more prepared come "test time" than students who treat
it as busy work. This is particularly true in Math as the test questions
resemble those asked on homework sheets. Please take time to check your
child's planner each night.

The 4th grade homework policy is as follows:

1. Homework is not to be done during school hours, at carpool or in the gym
during arrival.

2. Homework is to take approximately 45-60 minutes, Monday through
Thursday. This does not include study time for tests, quizzes or projects.
If your child is struggling or does not understand something, write a note
explaining the problem and it will be excused. The child will need to make
it up.

3. ALL homework needs to be done neatly, in cursive, and it must be complete
in order to receive credit. (So....messy, printed or incomplete homework will
receive a "0.")

4. Homework slips will be issued if a problem arises.

5. Students should plan long term or weekly projects carefully. These
should be worked on each night.

6. Homework does count on report card grades in 4th grade.

7. Each day a project is late, the given grade will drop one letter grade.

8. Please see homework policy in handbook regarding trips and other
absences. Students must make up homework and class assignments once they
return. Missed assignments will not be given out prior to a trip.

It is our hope that this policy will be used to help your child do the best
he/she can do.
Please sign and return a copy of this policy to school.

Thank you,

Mrs. Simmons
