We eat a snack EVERY DAY in First Grade. They need something to eat in addition to their lunch. They need a snack even on hot lunch days. Please choose: fruit, cheese, crackers, pretzels, or something else that is NOT a dessert. Thanks

The chidren love donuts! That seems to be the favorite. Others that have worked well are: brownies, cupcakes, anything that is individual and easy to serve. NO cookie cakes please.

I am not a trained ASL teacher. I use several books and web sites to find the correct signs (we do not make them up) for use in the classroom. I call the ASL we use "classroom sign language". :) I use sign to make them look at me. This is a great way to get them in the habit of looking at me with their eyes for directions. So often when I use my voice, I'm talking to the backs of their heads. Plus, they love signing and I do too. It's fun!

Yes, if you give me at least 1 week notice. I will put together all of the make up work. If I take the time to assemble the work, it is due the day your child returns to school.

Yes. Please send us a note prior to the date they are leaving early. We will have them packed and ready to go in the office waiting for pick up.

The best way to get information to me is through the homework folder. These folders are checked by 8:15 am. I check email once a week on Tuesdays at 1pm as well.

First Grade has a lovely garden that begins at the entrance to the lower building and wraps around to our classrooms. We began this garden 8 years ago with a lot of parent help. Our first graders plant twice a year (depending on the drought.) In the fall they bring in a bag of tulip or daffodil bulbs and a 6-pack of pansies to plant. This year we are planting on the 31st! Parents and grand parents are invited to join us right after Mass and help us plant. It is a lot of fun.
