Kindergarten News from Mrs. Yanoschak and Mrs. Harrell
Week of January 11 - January 15
Dear Parents,
The Scholastic Book order forms have been sent home. If you would like
to purchase some books for your child, then please send in the completed
order form(s) and money by January 14.
There will be no school on Monday, January 18 in recognition of Dr,
Martin Luther King's birthday. Enjoy the three day break!
It is hard to believe, but the 100th day of school is almost here!
Kindergarten celebrates the 100th day of school by completing a math project
at home. Details about the project have been sent home. The project is due
by January 28. We are looking forward to seeing some beautiful projects.
Reading Highlights:
"Look Closer" and "Butterfly"
- identfiy the number of sounds in words
- make predictions about each story
- introduce letters/sounds: Bb and Kk
- review word families: -am, -ap, -at, im, -in, -it, -ig, -ip
- review letters/sounds: Pp, Hh, Ll, Ff, Gg, Dd, Nn, Cc, Pp, Mm, Rr, Ss, Tt

Center Activities:
Art - color, cut, and paste pictures for Consonant Critter Kk
Writing - write in journal, "I like winter because..."
Math - play Jungle Run (a counting game)
Housekeeping - free choice
Birthdays:
We do not have any birthdays this week.
When sending in a birthday snack, please remember the food allergies in our
classroom. (No peanuts)
Star Student:
Our Star Student this week is Brianna Castiller. Please bring a picture
of yourself to school on Monday.
Kinder Book Club:
Our Kinder Book Club reader this week will be Barret Kurtz. Please
select a book to share with the class on Thursday.
Math:
The children will estimate and identify group size of about 10, 20, or 30
objects. Later in the week, the children will be assessed on the math
concepts taught in Chapter 5.
Religion:
We will discuss how Jesus calls us to be helpers.
Thematic Unit:
The children will continue to discuss the season of winter. We will also
read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Newsbrief:
- Please send a snack for your child EVERYDAY, Monday - Friday. The
children will also need a snack brought to school on early dismissal days.
- Please sign and return your child's Weekly Report each Monday. Weekly
Reports will not be sent home during short school weeks.
- Since the weather has turned colder, the children need to be bundle up for
recess. Please send your child with a warm coat, hat, scarf, and
gloves.
