Renegar Tournament

The Renegar tournament is an annual event, founded in the memory and honor of Coach Don Renegar: a coach, parent and parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy for 10 years. Don was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in May, 1999. This tournament was the idea and brainchild of past athletics directors, coaches and friends.

We make every effort to insure that this is a first class tournament. We emphasize that though the tournament will have a champion, though we are all champions for participating. Uur primary goal is to PLAY, PRAY and SOCIALIZE.

We have 8 boys and 8 girls’ teams and play in the normal bracket format for advancement. Each team is guaranteed 2 games of play in their bracket and has an opportunity to play for tournament third place if they continue to win.

The 2011 Tournament:

The tournament will begin on Thursday, November 3, 2011 with teams located in the Winston-Salem/High Point/Greensboro areas playing at the OLM School - Link Rd and St. Leo - Springdale Ave. Games will continue on Friday, November 4, 2011 with games being played at all locations; OLM - Link Rd location and the St. Leo – Springdale Ave locations in Winston-Salem. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, November 5, 2011 with the championship games played at the OLM School - Link Rd location. The tournament third place games will be held at the St. Leo School – Springdale Ave location.

OLM VOLUNTEER NEEDS:

The Don Renegar Invitational Basketball Tournament run by OLM is the largest fund raising event for OLM Athletics. All athletes benefit from this event as it funds equipment for all sports, uniforms, track maintenance, gym maintenance, referees etc. To run the tournament, volunteers are needed on Thurs Nov 3rd - Friday Nov 4th from 4:30-8:30 and on Saturday November 5th from 8:30-4:30.

The volunteer work is ~1:15 shifts during each of the 22 games in the tournament.  The three volunteer roles are:
  • Keep the official scorebook during games (St Leos and OLM)
  • Run the clock during the games (St Leos and OLM)
  • Man the gate collecting admissions. (St Leos)

The work is easy, and in the case of the clock and the book you have the best seats in the house for free!  Instruction on how to operate the clock or keep the book are available and the referees keep us straight if there are any questions.

Anyone who can help, please contact Jamie Rademaker by e-mail at JRademaker@Triad.rr.com . Let him know (1) What day and time you are available .. (2)  which of the three jobs you would prefer ... (3) If prefer the St Leo gym, the OLM gym or neither  (4) and a cell phone number.  Consider covering two games, but if you can only do one, all help is appreciated.

Thanks for the consideration and Go Mustangs!!
