****Subject to change******* Accelerated Reading -AR Point, book level, and percent correct goals will be set in the first weeks of school and every 9 weeks thereafter. How do I know if my child is "on track" for reaching his/her goal? Look at your child's most recent TOPS report. Midpage on this report it says, "marking period results to date". It will also say how much of the grading period has passed. In the same area, you will find your child's average book level, average percent correct, and total points earned. It will tell you what percent of your child's goal has been reached. Simply compare the percent of goal reached to the percent of the grading period that has passed. AR Guidelines * You must come to class prepared to take an AR test on the book you read the night before. If you have taken a test on your picture book, but are still reading your chapter book, unpack and continue reading your chapter book. * Test on all of your library books before asking to go to the library * 2 of your 3 library books must be AR and on your level * At least one of your library books must be a chapter book * Once you have reached your AR goal, you may check out all non-AR books and books from other levels if you wish. AR TOPS REPORTS are sent home every Friday. Your child will be working on Accelerated Math for homework each week. Accelerated math is a computer program that allows students to work on our 3rd grade math objectives. The program provides review, additional practice when needed, advancement when objectives are mastered, feedback for parents and teachers, and opportunity for students work at their own pace. Please allow your child to complete their AM homework independently as this is the only way that we can maintain accuracy of what they understand and/or what they need more practice with. We do ask that you check their bubbling on the scan card to ensure that it matches what they put on their answer sheet. Thanks! AM TOPS REPORTS will be sent home as students complete their assignments and tests. Each TOPS report will be stapled to its matching practice/assignment or test. TOPS reports show targeted math objectives, percents correct, and which problems a student answered incorrectly. We aim to go over the incorrect problems in class, but we strongly encourage you to go over them at home also. If you have any questions, as always, please dont hesitate to ask.
