Weesner's Weekly

April 22, 2009
Hi everyone! First, we’d like to welcome our new student, Natalie Green! She
is from Brevard, NC and joined us last week. We are pleased to have her.
As you know, End of Grade tests are quickly approaching. We are doing all
sorts of activities to help students prepare. If you feel that your child is weak in
certain areas of reading and/or math, please let us know and we will send home
remedial activities for your them. There are many great links on the parsley website
as well as my personal website:

Students have been choosing poems for “Poetry Café” which we will be hosting
on Friday, May 8 from 11:40-12:30. This is during our lunch time, so students will
eat lunch in the classroom and present the poem that they have chosen. This will be a
poem that they have chosen here at school, one that they have at home, or a poem that
they have written themselves. They are encouraged to be as creative as possible.
Some ideas: recite their poem from memory with dramatic interpretation, recite their
poem to music, illustrate their poem, make an advertisement poster of their poem,
anything to make their presentation unique. We have made copies of poems for several
students, so if/when your child has decided on their poem, they should be practicing
at home and creating a presentation to go along with it. Please join us for Poetry
Café, bring a lunch or get one from the cafeteria, and enjoy the show! If you have a
favorite poem you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate. We’d love it! 
