Spelling contract -
All work must be labeled (name, date, and title), numbered, and neat.
Spelling words must be underlined in spelling sentences and stories.
One assignment must be completed every Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday, and
Thursday night. If you would like, assignments may be turned in
early, but not late. There must be a total of 4 assignments turned in by
Friday for the week (less in a shortened week). Spelling homework on
the night before a final test (usually Thursday) is always to do a pretest
with a grown-up, let the grown-up check it, and write the words you missed 3
times each and turn in as Thursday night's spelling homework.
The title of the spelling assignment is to be written in the spelling blank
on your child's homework sheet.
Spelling contract choices are:
1. Put ALL of the words in ABC ORDER
2. Copy the words missed on the pre-test and write a
RHYMING word beside each one using no more than 2 nonsense
words. Choose another assignment if you can't think of real
words for MOST of your rhymes.
3. Word PYRAMIDS with the words missed on the Monday Pre-Test.
1st letter of the word only - on the top line
1st and 2nd letter of the word only - on the 2nd line
1st , 2nd, and 3rd letter of the word only - on the 3rd line
etc.
4. Use all * words in a SENTENCE.
Underline the spelling words you used.
Every sentence must-
*begin with a different word.
*have at least one sparkle word (adjective).
*be at least 5 words long or more.
5. Write a STORY using words missed on the pre-test (use only 5
WORDS if more words were missed).
Underline the words you used.
Make sure your story has a beginning, middle, and end.
Your story has to make sense and sound like a story.
Draw an illustration at the bottom.
6. Write words missed on the Monday Trial Test 3 TIMES EACH.
7. Draw pictures/illustrate words missed on pre-test (only 6
illus. if more words were missed). Write the spelling word
next to the picture.
8. Write words missed once using a DIFFERENT COLORS for the
vowels. ex. all consonants in blue and all vowels in green.
9. COMPUTER - You may do any of the above assignments on a
computer.Your work must be numbered and have your name,
date,and the title of the assignment at the top. Spelling
words must be underlined in sentences and stories.
REMEMBER THAT AN ADULT MUST BE WITH YOU WHEN GOING ON THE INTERNET!!!
NEW!! 10. Go to www.spellingcity.com, an icon on the homepage,
complete the 'Teach Me' section, 'Play a Game' section
(just one game), & print your report from the game and
place it in your folder. This program also has a 'Test Me'
section. You can use this activity to take your Trial Test on
Thursday nights. Just print the 'Test Me' report when you're
finished and place it in your folder.
Spelling tests -
5 day week - Trial test Monday and Final test Friday
4 day week - Trial test on 1st day and Final test on last day
3 day week - No Spelling
READING
Read for 20 min. EVERY night. (Even after AR goals are met.) This reading
should be done from your Parsley library books. Children are expected to
check out new books from the library daily. If you happen to have
left your library books at school, any reading material will do. Such as
kids magazines, books you have at home, comics, ... anything as long as you
read. Remember to READ, READ, READ!!!!You can also go to the public
library. Use the AR Test List on the Parsley Website to create a
personalized list of books, take this list with you to the library, and ask
one of the librarians to help you find some of the books on your list. They
probably won't have them all, but their sure to have some of them. The title
of the book is to be written in the reading blank on your child's homework
sheet.
MATH
All students have a math assignment Monday - Thursday. This is uaually a
worksheet relating to the skill taught that day or a combination of
previously taught skills to review. The title of the math page is to be
written in the math blank on your child's homework sheet.
